Waking up this mornin I thought the world would have been a whole lot more lighter. Dat check was coming in the mail tommora and everything was suppose to go swell. I was to wake with my “eggs”on the table as “I’m trying to talk to (my wife)bout myself(Hansberry 34). Although after those words and that struggle I would shake off my sister’s remarks as I headed to work. As I walked down the street I began to think of the possibilities of the great things this money can help us with. Travis can stop working at the groceries with random folk, Mama can start her own garden, and Beneatha might wake up from her trance of being something she aint ought to be and might come to her senses.  Anyway I checked in to work that day like any slave would and continued till about noon were I scattered home to find the holy grail: Ten-Thousands Dollars. It was a dream like no other. Mama was sitting on the other edge of the table. I didn’t hesitate for nothin . I told her about the liquor and the boys. There was no better option. Than she had to be all catholic and such saying that “that aint going to be no investing in no liquor stores”(70). God why does no one listen to me.?To make matters worse Ruth has outdone herself to make matters worse. A CHILD.  Woman we don’t have room for the one!  Might as well drink it off. Life cant get worse can it?

Abstract Paragraph #1 (#pinkelephants)

In Fitzgerald’s “The Diamond as Big as the Ritz”, the author creates a situation of riches to rags to explain how delirious the greedy can be by using rhetoric methods of imagery and personification. When “Braddock Washington was offering a bribe to God” (DBTR) the scene is really obscure and outrageous; He is even compared to “Prometheus”(DBTR) for his change of fate. Instead of receiving his make believe “Once upon a time” lifestyle that he dreamed to keep, Braddock is denied and becomes “magnificently mad” like an old “prophet” such as: Isaac, Moses or Abraham which Fitzgerald uses to show how highly Braddock thought of himself in the eye of God. After this scene that had seemed to come from God Himself, everyone rushes out of the cavern to safety, but only a few survive. Safe from any danger, the group discusses that even though Braddock is dead he wouldn’t go to Hades(Hell) because it “’was abolished long ago’”  which is suggested to make Mr. Washington less human and more like a god-like figure. Although the suggestion of Hades being abolished is odd since it is still considered to exist today. Using all these different methods of extreme imagery and personification, Fitzgerald creates a situation so abstract that pink elephants falling from the sky could potentially be a way to describe how delirious greed can be.

Is it true that we spend too much of our lives convincing others that we are someone we are not?

In today’s society, our personal lives are more open than ever. We are able to connect using different types of media such as comments, photos and videos. One of the things that I don’t think people realize is how each of these types of media can be filtered by the person. Took a selfie that you blinked in? Just don’t post that one. Swearing in a video? Don’t upload it. The image that is created in social media can be viewed as one sided therefore leaving people to not take in any speculation into the complete characteristics of a person. Knowing that the internet is such an open source and is accessible to practically anyone, your online image is the image that anyone can access at any time. The more pressure that is caused by the accessibility of the web can determine how much a person will “embellish” their image possibly to the point of losing themselves in the process. We all spend time creating a fake part of our selves to fit into this box we call society.If times on social media correlate with the time that we create our fake selves than we spend too much time creating a fictional society than we should.

How much do we really know about Nick?

              One of the ideals that Nick lives by is from one of his dad’s sayings “’…all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.’”(Fitzgerald 1) which had me thinking about how Nick approaches his future and perhaps how he lived in his past. I felt that there is a lot about Nick that the reader assumes since he is this mellow character that has no direct back story and is put in this luxurious situation where the story takes place. Although I feel like there is a lot that the reader can miss when analyzing the main character. First off he is a war survivor which is usually considered lucky not really an advantage. Perhaps he is quick witted but he probably also has problems day to day, possibly influenced by PTSD. Also it is said that he has been “accused of being a politician” because his insights on secrets of many people. Even though this seems like he may be able to persuade people I feel like since he treats Gatsby like a different individual, I think that Nick has dealt with many different kinds of people  and has become successful because of his ability to cooperate with many diverse personalities that help him as a “bond man”(10). Although I know that Gatsby will most likely be the main focus in the story I still feel like Nick has not shown his full back ground and I hope that more is revealed later on.

Synthesis Essay Punctuation

So after Friday’s debate we left the score board split by halves and still no one ended up on top Now we take to the web to continue the debate   Although punctuation is needed for organization purposes the change of punctuation rules  are a natural change in society helping  ideas grow and lets authors convey more emotion.

Through out the years punctuation has changed for better or for worse Writers of the past are almost incomprehensible because of the difference of grammar rules and punctuation. Going forward to the present we see a new formats through social media and such that even professionals use Punctuation is like a plant that evolves along with society and its preferences to develop a stronger branch of communication.

With the internet the world is more connected than ever before Practically anyone with a phone computer or electronic device can become part of any discussion and can contribute new ideas and points of view The increase in social media has also let many be involved with major corporations and is not limited by their   diction or education but by there imagination. This new connection allows more innovations and more emotion to be conveyed.

Although authors are given the right to write however they want to, many sick to the standards and are too afraid to try a new twist on grammar rules When coordinated correctly one can use the lack of punctuation as an advantage to drive a point across just as Toni Morrison has created in the prologue of  The Bluest Eye The way Morrison conveys the chaotic households of African Americans goes beyond the actual text letting the reader feel the chaos than to analyze it.

            The fact that we are still debating about punctuation in today’s society means that there is a change occurring Whether that change will restrict writers or will help them develop new ideas for the future will be determined by the way punctuation will be restricted or accepted  in the new evolving era.

Toni Morrison Its about the How

           Throughout the entire book, The Bluest Eye there are many moments that discuss what true beauty is and how it is misinterpreted through racism and peer pressure. Although Morrison reveals characters back stories to create sympathy for these, I personally feel the way she formats the entire story is the real essence of “how”(2^nd Prologue Morrison) ignoring the “why” (Morrison) The whole reason that Morrison is writing this is not to say how messy society has become, but how the way society has become this way. She doesn’t just want people to know that Cholly is a messed up parent, Morrison wants the reader to discover the roots of these problems, and see what they have grown into. The development of these characters reveals more about the plot and the environment that any other point of view would not accomplish. If Morrison were to leave out this unique style of character development, than we would no longer see the entire truth of the tyranny that occurs through racism. Also the world that the author creates is also improved by this writing style to reveal more of the history that has occurred. By following Morrison, the reader discovers more than the authors view point, but the oppressed societies as well.
